I like sandals a lot. They are what I primarily wear these days.
Really, what’s not to love about sandals? They:
- Allow air in and out. I want my feet to breathe. I don’t like the stuffiness and constriction of shoes.
- Are functional. That little strap behind the heels allows me to run and jump freely. Running in slippers? Just… no.
Running in Sandals - Look formal and polite enough. Okay in certain social situations shoes are a must, but for most business casual settings sandals more than suffice. I especially love sandals that cover the toes — allows for a much more formal look that way.
The toe cover allows for a more formal look - No socks! Just slip in and out. Oh yeah.
In brief, sandals provide the perfect middle ground between the ultra-relaxed slippers and the overly stiff shoes.
I used to rock slippers all the time as I was a fan of the casual look.

In 2017 I started to make the switch to sandals. The first pair was this sandals-slippers hybrid that was meant to be slippers but came with a heel strap.

Around late 2017 I became interested in military-style items. I bought a bunch of stuff with camouflage patterns including a raincoat, a tank top, a shirt, duct tape, a pair of trousers, and of course a pair of sandals.
These sandals are made by 5.ten. I saw them at a Phượt (backpacking) store and immediately fell in love. For 320k they were an absolute steal!

Those camo badasses served me for close to a year. Eventually I figured they look at bit… unfriendly, so I decided to switch to something more polite and mature.
Around July 2018 I was wearing these minimal sandals that sported only two straps:

Around the end of 2018 I bought these mofos that are clearly meant to be for middle aged dudes.

These bad boys cost 350k I think. They’re really comfy and functional. I did quite a bit of running and never once felt loose. When I’m lazy and just want to slip my foot in, I can just pull the strap up and boom –instant slippers.
Fast forward to May 2019, and the old man’s sandals just… broke. The strap came loose. I was genuinely saddened having to say goodbye to these trusted foot comrades.
I went to a shoe store and bought a pair of knockoff Dr Martens. At 550k this is the most expensive pair I’ve bought so far, but they have been pretty amazing. Look polite enough with a dark brown shade and a toe cover, and allow me to run with absolute ease. Only downside is that they are a bit on the heavy side.

Overall I think I’ll continue to wear sandals for a while, even during the winter. Hope that these knockoff Dr Martens will last at least until the end of the year.
